Our List of 2 Best Mattresses in Singapore (November 2023)

Editor's Choice — Peacelily Mattress

Peacelily Mattress

Highlights

  • Made from 100% natural latex.
  • GOTS-certified for its 100% organic cotton fabric.
  • Adjustable firmness level due to having layers with different firmness.

Peacelily is the best option on this list due to some of the unique things that it excels at. First and foremost, Peacelily uses 100% latex in their mattresses, which makes it natural and allergen-free. They also use 100% cotton for their fabrics, for which they are certified, as well.

Latex is known for being springy and pressure-relieving, which is how I felt while testing this model. In my tests, I measured 9.76 inches for the bounce level on the Peace Lily’s firm side and 9.01 inches on its medium side. The natural spring allowed me to change my sleeping position without much effort. The Peace Lily’s firm side had more bounce than the Koala by 2.36 inches, making the Peace Lily more suitable for sleepers preferring to feel buoyant in bed.

Due to this high natural quality, Peacelily doesn’t leave any doubts in their work. Their mattress is great for children or the elderly, due to being completely safe. It also provides three different layers with different firmness levels, so you can adjust it as you want to, in order to get the best therapeutic effect out of it. Many of the mattresses don’t offer this but Peacelily cares about comfort! Not only does the Peace Lily care about comfort, but they also take coolness into consideration with this model. Latex naturally doesn’t retain heat, plus the perforation encourages airflow. Derived from my tests, I noted a temperature of 30.2 degrees Celsius across the surface of the Peace Lily. I felt incredibly cool on both sides of this mattress, without any heat build-up.

The Peace Lily outperformed the Emma Comfort in this regard by 1.5 degrees, meaning the Peace Lily better suits hot sleepers looking for a mattress in Singapore.

Based on Our Review

Sleeping on the Peacelily mattress was an incredible experience for me as the mattress managed to blend cushioning while offering responsiveness as well. I could move around during my test without feeling restricted, as I had expected some level of “quicksand feeling” due to the mattress’s extensive sinkage.

Best Adjustable Mattress — Emma Comfort Mattress

Emma Comfort Mattress

Highlights

  • Suitable for all sleeping positions.
  • Adjustable mattress firmness.
  • Contains seven zones to distribute pressure and provide motion isolation.

This mattress wins the best mattress for being adjustable. The reason for this lies in the fact that if you’re a back sleeper, stomach sleeper, or a side sleeper, or whether you prefer a firm, soft, or medium firmness, this mattress can provide all of it for you.

Using the structured nature of this mattress, you can rearrange the layers based on the firmness that you desire, and adapt to the position you sleep in so your spine can take some rest. This mattress has seven ergonomic zones that distribute pressure evenly on the entire surface of the mattress. That is why your body pressure spots, such as the hips, shoulders, and back won’t feel much more pressure than the rest of the body, resulting in a more relaxed sleep experience. When I was testing this mattress, I noted a sinkage of 2.2 inches. The upper comfort layers cushioned me excellently while the zoning lifted my hips. I could feel ‘weightless’ while sinking into this model.

The Emma Comfort had more sinkage than the Peace Lily’s medium side by 0.19 inches, meaning the Emma Comfort is the better option for sleepers who enjoy more cradling and contouring pressure relief.

I also noticed this model’s Airgocell foam layer was responsive and fast-acting. In my tests, I measured a 0.2-second recovery for the model to bounce back from compressions. This is lightning fast, enabling me to toss and turn effortlessly across the mattress width.

The Emma Comfort outperformed the Koala’s medium-firm side in response timing by 0.5 seconds, making the Emma Comfort better suited to fans of a modern memory foam feel.

Based on Our Review

I reviewed the Emma Comfort mattress with all three sleeping styles (back, stomach, and side). The mattress offered prime support to keep me afloat while my hips, shoulders, and lumbar regions were cradled for pain relief. And to make things further interesting, I simply switched the foam layers to adjust the firmness level for the other sleeping styles that didn’t require as much hugging.

Things to Consider while Buying Mattresses Made in Singapore

Now that you know some of the best mattresses in the market of Singapore right now, it is essential to know what to look for in them so you can make a choice. In this section, we will go through some of the most important data about mattresses.

Mattress Type

Firstly, it is of utmost importance to know the type of layers the mattress you are buying has. You should not proceed to buy a mattress just because of the name, but also because of the material used in it, and whether it offers necessary support and contouring for you. Here are some of the most common mattress types.

  • Foam mattresses. This type of mattress is one of the most common types used in mattresses nowadays. It is great considering the quality. However, for people looking for extra support and air regulation, this might not be the right choice.
  • Polyfoam Mattresses. These layers used to be seen in spring mattresses in the layer above all. Polyfoam is used a lot in different types of mattresses and feels bouncier than other types of foam. For example, memory foam is not as bouncy as polyfoam. Due to this responsiveness, it provides pressure relief for the pressure points of the body. These points include the hips, the shoulders, and the back.
  • Memory Foam Mattresses. Memory foam mattresses are also very common. Most of the items on this list have at least one layer of memory foam in them. Sometimes memory foam and polyfoam are used together in mattresses to provide extra sturdiness.
  • Gel-infused Memory Foam. This type of mattress has the same characteristics that a standard memory foam mattress has. However, it is infused with a cooling gel. This cooling gel will prevent parts of the body like pressure points from becoming too hot due to body heat. It also helps air circulation, which is mostly weak in standard memory foam mattresses.
  • Latex Mattresses. Sometimes mattresses use both latex and memory foam, which makes them relatively cheaper than mattresses that are fully latex. For example, Peacelily claims that they use 100% natural latex in its mattresses, and that is why their mattresses are pricier. Quality speaks for itself, as well. Latex is a natural material, so it is naturally great for people with Asthma or allergies. It feels more bouncy and responsive. Sometimes people feel the same bounciness in latex mattresses as they do on innerspring mattresses. There are two different types of Latex: Dunlop and Talalay. Dunlop is the more common type of latex, which makes for firm mattresses. Talalay is much more expensive because of the way it is made. It also turns out much softer than Dunlop.
  • Hybrid Mattresses. Hybrid mattresses use both latex and springs. Hybrid mattresses combine the different great features of two types of mattresses inside one mattress. For example, innerspring is bouncier, while latex makes it more supportive. They use pocket coils inside hybrid mattresses, which is a type of sorting coil that places coils inside pockets or rows. This decreases the noise coming out of the mattress and separates different parts of the mattress regarding reacting to movement. That is how it improves the mattress motion isolation. Besides that, a combination of innerspring and latex makes air circulation great. Since both of these layers are great air conditioners, the body is not going to get too hot during the night. Nowadays, many innerspring mattresses are created with a top layer of latex to increase efficiency.

Hybrid mattresses tend to be heavier than regular mattress types and can be challenging to move around. This is why I advise opening your mattress package in the exact place where you want it, as navigation can be difficult if the mattress is expanded elsewhere.

  • Innerspring. Innerspring mattresses are made by steel coils at their heart. Then, there are layers of polyfoam to help with the support. Inside these types of mattresses, there are rows of steel coils which makes it responsive to each part of the mattress separately. Innerspring mattresses are great for people with more weight, as it provides the perfect support and contour for them. That is why if you are lightweight, you should go for other types of mattresses.

Firmness Level

Before buying a mattress, it is important to look for a suitable firmness level. What is the firmness level? Each person, according to their own characteristics, such as weight, sleep habits, etc., needs a different level of softness on their mattress. There is a 1-10 scale for the firmness level presentation. This means that the closer to 1, the softer, and the closer to 10, the sturdier. Softer mattresses around 1-2 may only be good for specific lightweight people because even a smaller mattress would fulfill their needs for support. As we get closer to medium firmness, people with more weight can sleep on them and feel great support provided for their bodies. Usually, a good mattress has a firmness level between 5-6. This is equal to medium firmness, and it prevents back pain for people in a medium weight range. As we approach 8-10 scores, the mattresses become very firm, and they are essentially not for people who are lightweight. Sometimes, mattresses can be adjusted for their firmness levels. This means that they have several layers with different firmness levels and can be rearranged to reach the desired firmness.

You can use a bed frame to increase or decrease your mattress’s firmness level. I’ve found that slatted foundations are ideal for making firm mattresses softer, while solid foundations are better suited to provide stability and make soft mattresses feel more rigid.

Motion Isolation

If you remember ever having complained about your partner’s movements during the night waking you up, then you definitely need a mattress with great motion isolation. Motion isolation refers to a mattress having regional responsiveness. This means that if some parts of the mattress move or if someone jumps on one side of the mattress, the person sitting or lying on another part of the mattress will not even sense it. Memory foam and pocket spring mattresses are great at motion isolation, because of the building blocks of the mattress being separate from each other and structured in a way that the mattress only responds to movements in that region.

Air Regulation

This is a particularly important thing to pay attention to while shopping for a mattress that doesn’t trap heat. Usually, a lot of people sweat in their sleep, or heat gets trapped around the body. This is the functionality of an innerspring or latex mattress, in a way that they have pores or spaces in them to keep the air circulating. Springs, particularly, provide a great ground for air to move freely through the mattress. Latex mattresses have small pores in them, which improves air circulation. However, memory foam mattresses tend to trap heat, so if you are looking for a cooling option, memory foam mattresses are not that great.

Spreading your mattress out to air dry at least once in 3 months is a great practice to keep your mattress clean while improving overall durability. In my experience, this allows trapped heat and moisture that could lead to allergies, to be dissipated.

Sleeping Habits

Not everyone sleeps the same way. Some people sleep on their backs, which means that they would need a medium-firm mattress to prevent back pain by providing support for the neck, head, and spine. People who sleep on their sides need a softer mattress so their pressure points can be freely moved to keep the spine aligned straight and cause ultimate comfort. Some people sleep on their stomachs, which means that they need a firm mattress for the alignment of the spines, again. Besides these, some people just sleep in different positions at night. To choose the most suitable option for a person who sleeps in various ways, the easiest solution would be to get a mattress that is best for the position they mostly sleep in. [1

Mattress Size

Last but not least, the mattress size matters a lot. When you are trying to purchase a mattress online, you are given the freedom to choose what size of mattress you need, depending on your own life. That is why you should pay attention to the size of the mattress in the first place, because if it is not available in your sizing, then it is not suitable for you. Mostly, mattresses are available in King, Queen, Twin, etc.

F.A.Q.

How long do mattresses made in Singapore last?

Just like other mattresses, they can last from 7 to 10 years. However, this time depends on the quality of the mattress.

Is there a need to clean the mattress that I bought in Singapore?

Yes, it is necessary to keep the mattress clean all the time. It means that if you notice any changes in color, try to wash the mattress or its cover. Also, if you can’t wash the mattress, make sure to dry it so moulds and different mites can’t survive in it.

What are the signs that I need a new mattress?

If your mattress fails to provide support for your spine and keeps giving you back pains, there is no room for risking or hesitating. You should get a new mattress in case of too many stains or sleepless nights.

Conclusion

We have both introduced the best mattresses in Singapore and talked about the ways to understand whether a mattress is suitable or not. Even though most of the things depend on the buyer and what their expectations are, there are some things to consider while buying one, for example, one’s sleeping position, firmness preference, and mattress type. Among all these criteria, we recommend Peacelily due to having everything that the others have in a box. Plus, Peacelily is fully natural and provides great air circulation and support for the spine. It is also one of the best latex mattresses in Singapore, which makes it very high in quality.  Thank you for reading this article, and hope it has provided you with useful information to make a choice.
